Islamic Immigration and the Death of Assimilation

National borders matter for every nation, and America is no exception. They matter because every nation carries its own customs, traditions, and values that make it distinct. America’s borders date back to the colonial era, and within them, a culture was cultivated, one where God stood at the center of public life and community. Those same values are now under threat, challenged by both legal and illegal immigration that’s reshaping the country from within.

As Scripture reminds us, “When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when He separated the sons of mankind, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.” Deuteronomy 32:8. God Himself established the principle of borders and nations, not to divide humanity out of hatred, but to maintain order, identity, and accountability.

Just last night, New York City elected Zohran Mamdani, a self-proclaimed socialist who openly sympathizes with 9/11 terrorists. His victory underscores a deeper national problem: America’s way of life is at serious risk of being uprooted.

Millions have entered the United States, both legally and illegally. While lawful immigration has long been part of our story, it isn’t always beneficial. Americans have their own customs, their own traditions, the very essence of what defines our culture. Historically, we have been a free people, a God-fearing people, oriented toward charity, liberty, justice, and virtue. Not every nation shares those values, and those who come from different systems bring with them different purposes and priorities.

That’s why assimilation is essential. Assimilation means more than residency, it’s the process of embracing a nation’s culture, civics, and values as one’s own. For those who come to America, it means understanding how our government functions, why church on Sunday matters to tens of millions, and what it means to live under the supreme law of our land, the Constitution. It means grasping the cultural rhythms that bind us: the meals we share, the families we cherish, the holidays we celebrate. Immigrants should not merely live in America; they should become American. After all, they chose to leave their homeland to come here.

Sadly, that vision is fading. Over the past 10 years, an estimated 20 million foreign nationals, representing more than 100 countries have crossed America’s borders unlawfully. In addition, over one million foreign students entered the country on visas during the 2023–2024 academic year, not counting millions of legal immigrants who came before. As a result, entire communities are being reshaped by those who often hold no real stake in preserving our way of life. Immigration itself is not the enemy, but immigration without assimilation can destroy a home from within.

No rational homeowner would invite someone inside and allow them to redecorate, rewrite the rules, and change the very spirit of the house. The homeowner would rightly push back. So why do we allow that within our borders?

Part of the blame lies within ourselves. We’ve failed to teach our own children what it means to be responsible citizens. We’ve neglected civic education and permitted ideologies and religions hostile to American principles to take root, chief among them, Islam.

Islam has grown into a serious cultural force within the United States. In Texas, the planned EPIC community has drawn national scrutiny as an Islamic enclave-in-the-making. Dearborn, Michigan, has become one of the largest Muslim-majority cities in America. These communities represent more than demographic change; they symbolize a growing unease that America’s foundational identity is being displaced. Were Americans to attempt such cultural dominance in Islamic-controlled nations, they would never be tolerated.

Islam is not compatible with America’s Constitution or her way of life. Sharia law cannot co-exist with our supreme law. Where American liberty honors women, Sharia law demands their public and private submission. Where American liberty honors God by allowing people the freedom of free will, Sharia law forces people into line. Where American liberty values the balance between individual rights and the common good, Islam demands participation in its ranks, both privately and publicly.

America’s open border policy has allowed this, and our lack of stewardship of process legal immigration has not made it any better. Borders matter and assimilation is crucial.

The Bible warns about this very principle of boundaries and stewardship: “Do not move the ancient boundary which your fathers have set.” Proverbs 22:28. Boundaries, both moral and national, are not barriers of hate but guardrails of preservation. When a people erase them, they lose their heritage and their purpose.

Our responsibility is clear: to steward this nation with care and preserve its heritage for future generations, not only for our sake but for the world’s. For centuries, America struck a rare balance: allowing religious freedom while upholding Christianity as the moral compass that guided both public and private life. That balance is now under siege.

As Nehemiah once prayed while rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls, “Remember me, O my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.” Nehemiah 5:19. His prayer wasn’t just about stone walls; it was about spiritual restoration and the courage to defend what was sacred. That’s the same spirit America must rediscover today.

The time to act is now. It means running for office, petitioning school boards, showing up at city council meetings, and doing everything possible to preserve the gospel of Jesus Christ in our communities, our states, and our nation. America’s borders are more than physical lines, they are the boundaries protecting our faith, our freedom, and our future.
