Response to Don Lemon Arrest

Don Lemon was recently arrested by the FBI for assisting in the interruption of a church service in Minneapolis. Worse than the interruption itself, Lemon claims he was merely interviewing the pastor. That claim collapses under even minimal scrutiny. What occurred was not an interview, nor was it journalism.

Lemon berated the pastor with questions designed to imply accusations rather than seek truth. This distinction matters, because a church was the target. The real First Amendment issue here is not the one Lemon and the Left are attempting to manufacture. The threat is not imaginary. It is real, and it is aimed directly at religious liberty.

The First Amendment does protect the right to peaceably assemble, which was asserted by Lemon. What it does not protect is the right to storm into a church, shout political slogans, intimidate congregants, and disrupt worship; the very thing Lemon is at fault for. That behavior has never been upheld by the Supreme Court as constitutionally protected. Not once. The suggestion that it is protected is not bold. It is nonsense.

After his arrest, Lemon immediately took to the media to justify his actions under the Constitution. One of the most troubling aspects of this episode is not just what he did, but what has not happened since. Lemon has not been ostracized by the media. He has not been publicly discredited as a serious journalist. Instead, he has been defended.

Jane Fonda rushed to his aid, declaring that a “red line has been crossed.”

But notice which line she is referring to. Not the line crossed when a church was invaded. Not the line crossed when worshippers were intimidated. No. The line, according to the Left, is the arrest of Don Lemon. And here’s the irony they refuse to confront: the same people outraged over Lemon’s arrest are furious that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is arresting and deporting violent criminals who are in the country illegally. Make that make sense.

Churches are not simply cultural institutions in America. They are spiritual safe havens, and they are being targeted. The Left is in full assault mode against any institution or individual that refuses to submit to its ideological demands.

That said, not all churches are under threat. Leftist churches, often rebranded as “activist churches,” enjoy full protection. When was the last time you saw one of them attacked in the news? You will not find Don Lemon bursting into The Potter’s House in Dallas demanding answers for marching with Black Lives Matter, an organization closely aligned with Antifa, which the Trump administration designated as a terrorist organization.

As far as the Left is concerned, it is open season on churches, unless those churches publicly parade Leftist ideology. In that case, they are elevated as moral authorities whose virtue aligns perfectly with their true god: the state.

For a journalist to storm into a church or any peaceful assembly and then claim constitutional protection reveals something fundamental. That journalist has no interest in truth. And truth is the very thing journalism is supposed to pursue.

This should concern every Christian, regardless of personal political views. But therein lies the problem. Ideology now determines whether basic standards of decency even matter. We used to say things like, “No matter our differences, we can at least agree on this.” That assumption no longer holds.

What we are witnessing is not merely political division. It is spiritual warfare.

The Dark Ages, spanning roughly from 400 A.D. to the 14th century, were marked by a lack of scientific advancement, education, and most importantly, biblical literacy. As technologically advanced as America is, we have fallen even further. When a sitting Supreme Court justice cannot define what a woman is, we are not facing ignorance. We are facing rebellion.

The people of the Dark Ages lacked education because it was withheld from them. America has enjoyed some of the highest literacy rates in human history. What we are seeing today, though, is not confusion. It is a rejection of God’s law and a defiant resistance to His design for humanity.

Don Lemon’s arrest offers a brief, refreshing sip of justice. But it is only a sip. There is far more work to be done. Actions like his must carry real consequences. If they do not, the behavior will escalate. Lawlessness always does.

Justice delayed emboldens defiance. Justice applied restrains it.
